ríais

Ríais is a verb form that appears in Spanish in relation to the verb reír, meaning to laugh. In standard Spanish, "ríais" is not a canonical form for a single tense; it is commonly considered a misspelling or a case of accent confusion for other correct forms of reír.

In proper conjugation, the second-person plural imperfect indicative of reír is reíais, with the e in the stem and an accent on the i: vosotros reíáis. The second-person plural present subjunctive form is riáis (that you all laugh). Because of the irregularity of reír and the similarity of vowels and accents, learners and editors may encounter misspellings that write ríais instead of reíais or riáis.

Examples of correct forms include:

- Imperfect indicative: Vosotros reíais mucho en las fiestas cuando contaban chistes. Translation: You all used to laugh a lot at parties when they told jokes.

- Present subjunctive: Espero que riáis con estas historias. Translation: I hope that you all laugh at these stories.

In many Spanish-speaking regions, especially where the vosotros form is not used, forms with ustedes supplant the vosotros forms. There, the corresponding meanings are conveyed with ustedes se ríen (present) or ustedes reían (imperfect). Nevertheless, the standard forms for reír retain reíáis and riáis for the vosotros subject, with ríais generally regarded as nonstandard when intended to express either of those tenses.
