Ruuvi-kiristin, known in English as a screw clamp or hose clamp, is a mechanical device used to create a tight seal around a flexible hose, typically for fluid or gas transfer. Its primary function is to prevent leaks by applying outward pressure to the hose, ensuring a secure connection to a fitting or pipe.

The basic construction of a ruuvi-kiristin consists of a metal band, often made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, which encircles the hose. This band has a series of interlocking segments or corrugations that allow it to expand and contract. A screw, usually a slotted or Phillips head, passes through a housing attached to one end of the band. Tightening this screw draws the band together, reducing its diameter and thus compressing the hose against the fitting. The screw mechanism provides the necessary leverage to achieve significant clamping force.

Ruuvi-kiristimet are commonly found in automotive applications, such as securing radiator hoses, fuel lines, and vacuum lines. They are also used in industrial settings for pneumatic and hydraulic systems, as well as in domestic plumbing and gardening. The size and material of the clamp are chosen based on the hose diameter, the pressure of the fluid or gas being conveyed, and the environmental conditions to ensure durability and effectiveness. Different types of ruuvi-kiristimet exist, including worm gear clamps (the most common type), T-bolt clamps for higher pressure applications, and ear clamps for permanent sealing.
