Rotform is a term used in several disciplines to denote a mathematical object associated with rotation. There is no single canonical definition; its meaning varies by context, though all usages share a focus on rotational structure or orientation.

In differential geometry and vector calculus, a rotform can refer to a differential form that encodes the rotation part of a field. For a smooth vector field on a three–dimensional manifold, the curl (or rot) captures local rotation, and, via the exterior derivative and Hodge dual, this rotational information can be expressed as a differential form often called the rotation form. This perspective emphasizes how rotation interacts with orientation, area, and integration on manifolds.

In computer graphics and robotics, rotform is sometimes used as a shorthand for a compact rotation representation that facilitates interpolation and composition, such as quaternions, rotation matrices, or axis–angle forms. In these contexts, a rotform is valued for numerical stability and efficiency in tracking and applying orientation changes over time.
