Rideverbs is a proposed lexical category in linguistics that comprises verbs associated with the act of riding, including moving on a mount or vehicle and the rider’s interaction with the mount or vehicle. The term is used by some researchers to distinguish this domain from general motion verbs that describe movement without a rider’s perspective.

Members of this category typically encode aspects such as the rider’s agency, control over direction, and bodily posture or contact with the vehicle. Common examples include ride, mount, dismount, steer, balance, grip, and hold on. In contexts like horseback riding or cycling, these verbs can occur with explicit host nouns (the horse, the bike) or more generally in rider-centered constructions.

Semantically, rideverbs can be transitive or intransitive and may participate in aspectual distinctions related to initiation, duration, and completion of the riding act. They often interact with modifiers that specify speed, form, or style (for example, skillfully, awkwardly) and may co-occur with instrument or vehicle nouns to mark how riding is performed.
