Rezonancia (resonance) is a phenomenon that occurs when a vibrating system or external force drives another system to oscillate with greater amplitude at a specific frequency. This specific frequency is known as the resonant frequency. When the driving frequency matches the natural frequency of oscillation of a system, energy transfers most efficiently, leading to a significant increase in the amplitude of the oscillations.

This principle applies across various scientific disciplines. In physics, it is observed in mechanical systems like a swing being pushed at its natural period, causing it to swing higher. In acoustics, a musical instrument produces sound through resonance; for example, the body of a guitar resonates with the vibrations of the strings, amplifying the sound. In electromagnetism, resonance is crucial in tuning circuits, such as in radios, where a specific frequency is selected from a range of broadcast signals.

The concept of resonance also extends to chemistry, particularly in describing the delocalization of electrons in molecules. When a molecule can be represented by multiple valid Lewis structures, each differing only in the placement of electrons, it is said to exhibit resonance. The actual structure of the molecule is a hybrid of these contributing structures, and this delocalization of electrons stabilizes the molecule.

In engineering, resonance can be both beneficial and detrimental. While it's used to design efficient systems like oscillators, it can also cause catastrophic failures if unwanted vibrations reach resonant frequencies, such as in bridges or aircraft. Understanding and controlling resonance is therefore a critical aspect of designing and analyzing many physical systems.
