Reversesaturation is a general term used across disciplines to describe the return of a system from a saturated state to a less saturated or unsaturated state after the driving input is reduced or removed. It focuses on the dynamics by which a previously saturated system reopens available capacity or response.

In adsorption processes, saturation occurs when available binding sites on a surface are occupied by adsorbate molecules. Reversesaturation refers to desorption or release of adsorbates, freeing sites and allowing the surface to return toward its unsaturated state. The rate and mechanism depend on temperature, pressure, and the nature of the adsorbate–surface interaction, and are typically described by desorption rate constants and isotherm models such as Langmuir or Freundlich.

Reversesaturation occurs as ligands dissociate or are cleared, receptors resensitize, or turnover processes restore available capacity. Recovery kinetics influence signaling dynamics and pharmacodynamics.

Measured reversesaturation is often reported as a recovery time or desaturation time, with rate constants or time constants derived from experimental relaxation curves.
