reszel

Reszel is a town in northern Poland, located in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Kętrzyn County. It is the seat of Gmina Reszel.

The town lies in the Masurian region, an area known for its lakes and forests, and features a medieval urban layout centered on a market square and the historic Reszel Castle.

Reszel's origins date to the Middle Ages, when a fortress was established by the Teutonic Knights. The current Reszel Castle was built in the 14th century and remains a major landmark; it houses a local museum and hosts cultural events.

During the medieval and early modern periods it belonged to the State of the Teutonic Order and later to Prussia; after 1945 it became part of Poland.
