Respublikalar is the plural form of respublika, used in several Turkic languages such as Uzbek and Kazakh to denote republics — states governed according to the principle of res publica, the public thing. The term respublika itself derives from Latin res publica, meaning the public thing or the affairs of the people. In these languages, respublikalar refer to political systems in which sovereignty rests with the people and their elected representatives rather than a hereditary monarch.

Republics are defined by a constitutional framework, rule of law, and the separation of powers. The head of state is typically an elected president, while the head of government may be a prime minister or a president in a presidential system. Variants include parliamentary republics, presidential republics, and semi-presidential systems. Most republics aim to ensure accountability through regular elections, independent courts, and checks and balances, though practices vary in different countries.

Historically, the modern republic emerged in the 18th century amid revolutions and Enlightenment ideas about popular sovereignty and constitutional government.
