Resorptionen is the plural form of Resorption, a term used in biology and medicine to describe the process by which tissue or substance is broken down, dissolved, and reabsorbed or removed from a location. The phenomenon involves cellular activity that transfers materials from one compartment into another, often through specialized cells that resorb mineralized or organic matter.

In humans, resorption is a central component of tissue remodeling and mineral homeostasis. Bone resorption, driven mainly by osteoclasts, accompanies formation to renew the skeleton and regulate calcium levels. Physiological resorption also occurs during growth, development, and the shedding of deciduous teeth. Pathological resorption refers to excessive or misdirected tissue loss, such as osteolysis in osteoporosis or inflammatory bone destruction caused by infection, tumors, or chronic inflammation. In dentistry, resorption is a key concern because it can affect tooth stability and integrity.

Dental resorption includes external resorption, which starts at the outer surface of the tooth and is often related to trauma, orthodontic forces, or pressure from adjacent pathology; and internal resorption, which begins within the pulp chamber or root canal due to clastic activity inside the tooth. Both forms may be detected radiographically and can be asymptomatic or cause tooth mobility, pain, or structural compromise. Management focuses on addressing the underlying cause, and prognosis varies with extent and location of the resorption.
