Resettled is the past tense of resettle: to move a person or group to a new place and establish residence there. The term is used in both general language and specialized contexts to describe relocation for safety, economic opportunity, or demographic planning.

In humanitarian and asylum contexts, refugee resettlement refers to the transfer of individuals from an asylum country to a third country that accepts them as permanent residents. It is considered a durable solution when local integration or voluntary return is not feasible. Resettlement decisions are typically made by the destination country with guidance from international organizations, and involve screening, medical checks, and reception arrangements.

Resettlement can also occur within a country, often called internal resettlement, for disaster recovery, environmental risk management, or urban redevelopment. In such cases, people are relocated to new communities and receive support services to aid housing, employment, and integration.

Benefits include protection from persecution and improved access to services, while challenges include limited places, administrative hurdles, language and cultural barriers, and potential disruption of social networks.
