Repülgépfékek, or aircraft brakes, are essential components of an aircraft's braking system, designed to decelerate or stop the aircraft during landing and on the ground. These systems are critical for flight safety, enabling pilots to control the aircraft's speed effectively. Aircraft brakes are typically powered by hydraulic systems, which transmit pressure from the pilot's brake pedals to the brake actuators.

There are several types of aircraft braking systems, with the most common being disc brakes. These operate similarly to the brakes on a car, employing rotors and brake pads. When the pilot applies the brakes, hydraulic pressure forces the brake pads against the rotating discs, creating friction that slows the wheel. Multiple discs are often used in larger aircraft to dissipate heat more effectively and provide greater braking force.

Another important component of aircraft braking is the autobrake system. This automated system allows the pilot to pre-select a desired deceleration rate. Upon landing, the autobrake system automatically applies the necessary braking force to achieve this rate, reducing pilot workload and ensuring consistent braking performance.

Spoilers, also known as lift dumpers, are another mechanism used to enhance braking. These panels on the upper surface of the wings are deployed upon landing to disrupt airflow over the wings, reducing lift and thereby increasing the weight on the wheels. This increased weight transfers more force to the brakes, improving their effectiveness. Thrust reversers, which redirect engine thrust forward, also contribute significantly to deceleration, especially on longer runways. The combined operation of these systems allows aircraft to stop safely within the available runway length.
