Reprojekció is a term used in cartography and geographic information systems (GIS) to describe the process of converting coordinates from one map projection system to another. Map projections are methods of representing the curved surface of the Earth onto a flat plane. Because different projections distort the Earth's surface in different ways, it is often necessary to transform data from one projection to another to ensure accurate analysis and display.

The need for reprojection arises when datasets are created using different projection systems, or when a specific analysis requires a projection that best suits the particular geographic area and the type of spatial operation being performed. For example, a dataset projected for a global view might not be suitable for detailed analysis of a small region, and vice versa. Reprojection involves applying mathematical transformations to the coordinates of a dataset, effectively recalculating their positions based on the parameters of the target projection.
