Reintegrare is a Romanian term meaning the process of restoring someone or something to full participation in a group, system, or society. The concept is used across social policy, criminal justice, and development to describe the return to normal life after exclusion or disruption. Etymology derives from the Latin reintegrare, meaning to restore wholly.

In social policy and public administration, reintegration refers to programs and measures that help people re-enter social and economic life after a period of absence or marginalization. Common targets include former prisoners released into the community, refugees or internally displaced persons resuming civic life, and ex-combatants transitioning to civilian livelihoods. Typical components are vocational training, education, job placement support, housing assistance, health care and mental health services, legal aid, and community-based mentoring.

In criminal justice, reintegration aims to reduce recidivism by ensuring release planning aligns with community resources, supervision, and social support that facilitate stable employment and housing.

In humanitarian and development contexts, reintegration programs support livelihoods restoration, social networks, and access to services as part of post-crisis recovery or demobilization processes.

Challenges include stigma, limited affordable housing, unemployment, fragmented service delivery, and ensuring rights-based inclusion. Success is often measured by employment, income stability, housing security, social participation, and absence of reoffending.
