Reguleringstyrke is the strength with which a regulator in a feedback control system corrects deviations from a desired setpoint. It describes how aggressively the controller acts to bring the process variable back to the target and is closely linked to the overall responsiveness of the system.

In linear control theory, reguleringstyrke is related to the loop gain of the regulatory loop. If G(s) represents the process (plant) model and C(s) the controller, the loop gain is L(s) = G(s)C(s). A higher loop gain generally yields faster error correction and smaller steady-state error, but reduces stability margins and can cause overshoot or sustained oscillations. The regulation strength is also tied to the closed-loop bandwidth and to the sensitivity function S(s) = 1/(1 + L(s)).

Tuning methods for achieving a desired reguleringstyrke involve selecting controller parameters, such as the gains in a PID controller (proportional, integral, and derivative). Increasing the proportional gain raises short-term regulatory strength but may provoke overshoot; integral action eliminates steady-state error; derivative action adds damping. In practice, there is a trade-off between rapid correction and stability, influenced by model accuracy, delays, and actuator limits.
