Current trends favor refrigerands with low or zero global warming potential (GWP), such as hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), natural refrigerands like ammonia, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons (e.g., propane). Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages regarding flammability, toxicity, efficiency, and system compatibility.
