refrakcyjny

Refrakcyjny is a Polish adjective derived from refrakcja (refraction), used to describe phenomena, devices or conditions related to the bending of waves—most commonly light—when passing between media with different optical properties. In physics and optics the term characterizes properties of materials and optical systems that affect how they refract light, for example współczynnik refrakcyjny (refractive index) and układ refrakcyjny (refractive system).

In medicine, especially ophthalmology, refrakcyjny appears in phrases such as błąd refrakcyjny (refractive error) and chirurgia refrakcyjna (refractive surgery). Błąd refrakcyjny denotes defects in the eye’s focusing ability, including myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, while chirurgia refrakcyjna refers to surgical techniques (e.g., LASIK) that alter corneal curvature to correct vision.
