The HTTP Referer header (often misspelled as "Referrer" in everyday usage) is sent by browsers with requests to indicate the address of the page from which the request originated. Browsers may omit it or provide partial information depending on privacy settings and the site's Referrer-Policy. The referer bar, when present in a tool or UI, typically shows this header value for the current request or the chain of referers across navigations.

Typical uses of a refererbar include debugging HTTP requests, analyzing traffic sources in development or staging environments, or presenting referer data in analytics dashboards. Implementations may show a single referer URL for a current resource or a sequence of referers for a user’s navigation path across pages.

Security and privacy considerations are important: exposing referer data can reveal internal URLs, query parameters, or sensitive paths.
