Receptorral is a proposed family of cell-surface receptors described in theoretical models of extracellular signal transduction. It is defined by a modular architecture that includes an extracellular ligand-binding domain, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic signaling tail that interfaces with intracellular proteins. The precise topology is debated, with both single-pass and multi-pass arrangements reported in different sources.

Proposed ligands for receptorral proteins range from small molecules to peptide and protein ligands. Binding is presumed to trigger a conformational rearrangement of the receptor that enables recruitment of intracellular adapters and activation of downstream signaling pathways. In some models, receptorral signaling can engage G protein–coupled pathways; in others, it is proposed to resemble receptor-like kinase cascades, or to recruit beta-arrestin–dependent signaling in a biased manner.

Distribution and function: In speculative models, receptorral proteins are expressed across tissues but are most strongly associated with nervous and immune systems, where they are thought to influence synaptic transmission, cell adhesion, migration, and inflammatory responses. Their exact physiological roles remain uncertain and may vary by tissue context and ligand.

Some laboratories view receptorral as an emerging but unclassified receptor family; others treat it as a conceptual framework for understanding certain signaling motifs.
