Reaktormiljöer refers to the environments within and surrounding nuclear reactors. Outside the reactor vessel, but still within the containment building, are other critical reaktormiljöer. The containment building itself is a vital reaktormiljö, designed to prevent the release of radioactive materials in the event of an accident. It is typically a thick, reinforced concrete structure.

Further out, the turbine hall and auxiliary buildings constitute additional reaktormiljöer. These areas house equipment for converting heat into electricity and supporting reactor operations, respectively.
