Rafhlöður is the Icelandic word for batteries. Batteries are devices that convert chemical energy into electrical energy through electrochemical reactions. They are essential for powering a wide range of portable electronic devices, electric vehicles, and backup power systems.

There are two main types of batteries: primary and secondary. The performance of a battery is characterized by its voltage, capacity (measured in ampere-hours, Ah), and energy density (measured in watt-hours per kilogram, Wh/kg, or watt-hours per liter, Wh/L). Factors like temperature, discharge rate, and age can significantly affect a battery's actual performance and lifespan. Battery technology is a continually evolving field, with ongoing research focused on improving energy density, reducing charging times, enhancing safety, and developing more sustainable and environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes. Proper disposal of used batteries is also important to prevent environmental contamination.
