Radiologisten is the Swedish term for the radiologist, a physician who specializes in medical imaging and image-guided interventions. Radiologists interpret images produced by X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and nuclear medicine, and they consult on diagnoses and treatment plans.

Training typically requires completion of a medical degree followed by multi-year radiology specialization and board certification. Many radiologists pursue subspecialty fellowships in neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, or abdominal radiology.

Responsibilities include interpreting imaging studies, providing structured reports, guiding image-guided procedures, selecting imaging protocols, ensuring patient safety, and communicating with referring clinicians. Interventional radiology uses imaging guidance to perform procedures such as angiography, biopsies, drain placements, ablations, and stent placements.

Work settings include hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and academic institutions. Radiologists collaborate with radiographers and technologists who perform the scans, and they may participate in teleradiology to interpret images remotely.

In practice radiologists adhere to radiation protection principles such as ALARA, manage contrast safety, obtain informed consent, protect patient privacy, and participate in quality assurance and continuing education. They play a central role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary care across medical specialties.
