Qubiten is a hypothetical unit of quantum information used in speculative discussions and fiction to illustrate the flow and storage of quantum data. In its common rendering, a qubiten serves as the smallest indivisible information token in a quantum system, analogous in purpose to a qubit but often treated as a discrete carrying unit within a larger architecture.

Definition and interpretation: A qubiten resides in a two-level (or effectively two-level) state space and can be prepared in superpositions, entangled with other qubit-like tokens, and subjected to quantum gates. In practice, a physical realization of a qubiten might be a real qubit implemented in superconducting circuits, trapped ions, spin systems, or photonic encodings; alternatively, a qubiten could be a logical qubit encoded across many physical units. The distinction is frequently pedagogical: a qubiten emphasizes the token-based view of information flow rather than the details of the underlying encoding.
