A quadrocopter, also known as a quadrotor helicopter or simply a drone, is a type of helicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors. Typically, two rotors spin clockwise and two spin counterclockwise. This arrangement provides stability and control without the need for complex mechanical linkages found in traditional helicopters. The rotors are usually mounted in a square or rectangular configuration.

The flight of a quadrocopter is controlled by adjusting the speed of each individual rotor. By increasing the speed of one or more rotors, the pilot can induce movement in specific directions. For example, increasing the speed of the front rotors while decreasing the speed of the rear rotors will cause the quadrocopter to pitch forward. Similarly, changes in rotor speeds allow for rolling, yawing, and vertical ascent or descent.

Quadrocopters have a wide range of applications. They are commonly used for aerial photography and videography due to their maneuverability and ability to hover. In recent years, they have also found significant use in delivery services, surveillance, agricultural monitoring, and recreational purposes. Their relatively simple design and ease of operation have contributed to their widespread popularity. Advancements in battery technology and navigation systems continue to expand their capabilities.
