qilinayotgan

Qilinayotgan is a present participle form in Uzbek grammar. It represents a passive, progressive aspect derived from the verb qilmoq “to do.” The form combines the verb stem qil-, the passive participle suffix -in-, and the present-progressive suffix -ayotgan, yielding qilinayotgan. In meaning, qilinayotgan denotes an action that is currently in progress and is happening to the subject, i.e., it is being done rather than performed by the subject.

Use and function: qilinayotgan is typically used to describe processes or events in progress and often appears as a modifier for nouns or within relative clauses. For example, "Hozir qilinayotgan ishlar katta e'tibor talab qiladi" translates as “The tasks being done now require great attention.” Another example is "Qilinayotgan ishlar xavfsizligiga alohida e'tibor berilishi lozim," meaning “Special attention should be given to the safety of the tasks that are being done.” It can also occur in clauses such as "Ular qilinayotgan ishlar haqida gaplashdilar," “They talked about the things that are being done.”

Morphology and contrast: qilinayotgan contrasts with qilayotgan, the active present participle meaning “doing” (the subject performs the action). The passive, progressive sense of qilinayotgan emphasizes the ongoing state of the action directed at the object rather than the actor.
