A péniszimplantátum, or penile implant, is a medical device surgically placed inside the penis to treat erectile dysfunction. It is typically considered when other less invasive treatments, such as oral medications or injections, have not been effective or are not suitable for the patient. Penile implants are designed to restore the ability to achieve an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse.

There are generally two main types of péniszimplantátum. The first is a malleable implant, which consists of semi-rigid rods that can be manually bent into an erect position or an at-rest position. This type is simpler and has a lower risk of mechanical failure but results in a permanently somewhat firm penis. The second type is an inflatable implant. This system involves inflatable cylinders placed in the penis, a fluid reservoir, and a pump typically located in the scrotum. When the pump is squeezed, fluid is transferred to the cylinders, creating an erection. Releasing the pump allows the fluid to return to the reservoir, causing the penis to become flaccid. Inflatable implants offer a more natural appearance of both erect and flaccid states.

The surgical procedure for implanting these devices is performed under anesthesia. Recovery time varies, and potential complications, though rare, can include infection, mechanical failure of the device, or changes in sensation. Péniszimplantátum surgery is a permanent solution for erectile dysfunction, and once implanted, the original erectile tissue cannot be restored.
