A párolóbetét, often translated as evaporation pad or cooling pad, is a component used in evaporative cooling systems, also known as swamp coolers or evaporative air conditioners. These systems function by drawing warm, dry air through a water-saturated material. The process of evaporation of water from the material causes a significant cooling effect, which is then circulated into the desired space.

The párolóbetét is typically made of a porous, absorbent material designed to maximize surface area for water contact and air flow. Common materials include cellulose-based paper treated with stiffening agents, or specially engineered corrugated materials. These materials are designed to hold a sufficient amount of water while allowing air to pass through with minimal resistance. The saturation of the párolóbetét is maintained by a water distribution system, usually a pump that circulates water from a reservoir over the pad. As fans pull air through the wet pad, the water evaporates, absorbing heat from the air and lowering its temperature. The cooled air is then expelled into the environment.

The effectiveness of a párolóbetét is dependent on factors such as the humidity of the ambient air. Evaporative cooling is most efficient in dry climates where there is a greater capacity for water to evaporate. In humid conditions, the cooling effect is reduced. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and occasional replacement of the párolóbetét, is necessary to ensure optimal performance and prevent the growth of mold or bacteria.
