Lamination involves splitting the core into thin sheets, insulated from each other by a thin layer of varnish or oxide. This increases the electrical resistance along the paths of the eddy currents, effectively breaking them up and significantly reducing their magnitude and the associated heat generation. The choice of material with lower resistivity can also help minimize these losses, though this is often balanced against other desired material properties.
