Pysäköintitutkat, known in English as parking sensors, are electronic devices designed to assist drivers when parking or maneuvering in tight spaces. They are typically installed in pairs or sets of four on the front and/or rear bumpers of a vehicle. These systems work by emitting ultrasonic waves or electromagnetic fields, which then reflect off nearby objects.

When an object is detected, the system calculates its distance from the vehicle. This information is then communicated to the driver, usually through a series of audible beeps that increase in frequency as the vehicle gets closer to the obstacle, or sometimes via a visual display on the dashboard or infotainment screen that shows proximity zones.
