pyrolyysiGCMS
Pyrolysis GC-MS is an analytical technique that combines pyrolysis, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry to analyze materials that are nonvolatile or thermally labile. In operation, a solid or semi-solid sample is introduced into a pyrolysis unit, where it is rapidly heated in an inert atmosphere to a high temperature. The thermal decomposition products generated by pyrolysis are carried by an inert gas into a GC column, where they are separated and subsequently detected and identified by a mass spectrometer.
The approach relies on the fact that many complex materials produce characteristic set of volatile pyrolysis
Typical applications include polymer identification and characterization, especially for mixed or unknown plastics and additives; forensic
Advantages include the ability to analyze nonvolatile substances and to obtain rapid, informative fingerprints. Limitations include
