The mechanism by which pyrogens induce fever involves the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Pyrogens stimulate the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which in turn activate the HPA axis. This activation leads to the release of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) from the hypothalamus, followed by the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary gland. ACTH then stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol, which helps to regulate the body's response to stress and inflammation.

Fever is a natural defense mechanism of the body, helping to combat infections and inflammation.
