Puolustuslinjaa is the partitive form of the Finnish noun puolustuslinja, meaning a defense line. The term refers to a line of defense—an arrangement of fortifications, obstacles, and other measures designed to slow, deter, or stop an opposing force and to protect territory, infrastructure, or key assets. A puolustuslinjaa can be static, consisting of trenches, bunkers, minefields, anti-tank ditches, barbed wire, artillery strongpoints, and observation posts, or it can be a more flexible defense plan that uses terrain and delaying actions to buy time for mobilization and reinforcement.
