Pulzusmérés refers to the measurement of a person's pulse rate. The pulse is the rhythmic expansion and recoil of arteries caused by the pumping action of the heart. It is a fundamental vital sign used to assess a person's cardiovascular health.

The most common method of pulzusmérés involves manually palpating an artery, typically the radial artery at the wrist or the carotid artery in the neck. The number of pulsations felt over a specific period, usually 30 seconds or a full minute, is counted and then multiplied to determine the pulse rate in beats per minute (bpm). Alternatively, a stopwatch can be used for greater accuracy.

Electronic devices also facilitate pulzusmérés. Pulse oximeters, commonly used in healthcare settings, measure pulse rate along with blood oxygen saturation by passing light through a fingertip or earlobe. Wearable fitness trackers and smartwatches frequently incorporate optical sensors that detect changes in blood volume in the wrist capillaries, providing continuous or on-demand pulse rate data.

A normal resting pulse rate for adults typically ranges between 60 and 100 bpm. Factors such as age, fitness level, stress, and certain medical conditions can influence pulse rate. Deviations from the normal range may indicate underlying health issues and warrant further medical evaluation. Regular pulzusmérés can be a simple yet effective way to monitor one's general well-being.
