Risk assessment and safety management are central to compliance. Manufacturers identify hazards, evaluate exposure, and implement controls through design changes, process controls, and testing. Quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and risk-management standards like ISO 14971 (for medical devices) guide industry practice. For software-enabled and connected products, cybersecurity and data privacy considerations are increasingly treated as safety-related risks.

Information and labeling help users make safe choices. Instructions, warnings, age/grading indications, and clear disposal guidance reduce misuse and accidents. Documentation and customer support are part of safety systems.

Post-market activities monitor safety after release. Market surveillance, incident reporting, and recalls or field safety notices enable corrective action if new risks emerge. Consumers and retailers may be required to report injuries or defects to authorities.
