probandus
Probandus is a Latin-derived term that appears occasionally in scholarly discussions as a theoretical analogue to probandum—the proposition or subject of investigation that must be demonstrated. The form probandus is the masculine singular gerundive of probare, meaning “to be tested” or “that which must be proven.” In classical Latin, probandus is encountered in contexts indicating something to be tested, but probandus itself is not a common stand-alone term in ordinary usage.
In modern discourse, probandum or probanda is more typical, while proband remains the established term in genetics
Usage notes: When probandus is employed, it should be explicitly defined to avoid confusion with probandum
