Printtiprosessen is a term used in Scandinavian contexts to describe the set of activities involved in reproducing text and images on substrates using printing technologies. The term covers a range of workflows from concept to finished product and can apply to commercial, packaging, and industrial printing. At its core, the process aims to produce repeatable, accurate renditions of an intended design while controlling cost, speed, and quality.

Common technologies include offset lithography for high-volume production of paper print; digital printing, which covers inkjet and electrophotographic methods for shorter runs and customization; flexography for packaging and labels on flexible substrates; gravure for long runs with high image quality; and screen printing for textiles, electronics, and specialty substrates. The choice of technology depends on volume, substrate, required image fidelity, and speed.

Core concepts include color management using the CMYK color space and spot colors; profiling; trapping; screening; and resolution requirements (DPI) for output devices. Prepress tasks include design formatting, color conversion, proofing, and plate or form generation. The proof stage may involve soft proofs and hard proofs to verify color and content before press. After prepress, production involves press setup—selecting substrate, ink, and pressure—followed by printing and drying or curing. Finishing steps such as cutting, folding, laminating, varnishing, binding, and packaging complete the product.

Quality control and sustainability considerations address consistent output, waste reduction, energy efficiency, ink and solvent management, and compliance with industry standards.
