Prevenite is a fictional mineral species commonly described in geological fiction and worldbuilding resources. The name is derived from prevent or prevention, reflecting its imagined role in protecting materials from degradation.

Description and properties: In standard worldbuilding depictions, prevenite forms as small prisms with a glassy luster, colorless to pale green, and a Mohs hardness of about 5–6. It is described as a complex phosphate-silicate with variable calcium, magnesium, and aluminum as major constituents and trace amounts of rare earth elements. In many accounts, prevenite crystallizes in the monoclinic system, though alternative fictional sources permit other polymorphs.

Formation and occurrence: Prevenite is said to form in high-temperature, high-pressure metamorphic environments with phosphate- and silica-rich fluids. In fictional maps, it is found in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, frequently adjacent to quartz and apatite.

Uses and significance: In narrative contexts, prevenite is thought to impart protective properties when integrated into alloys, coatings, or cements, reducing oxidation and corrosion.
