In computing, prepropagation often refers to speculative or proactive distribution of information. Examples include prepropagating data to cache layers or edge nodes based on predicted demand, thereby shortening access times for subsequent requests. Another usage is prepropagating state changes through a system before they are needed, which can speed up event processing or synchronization in distributed architectures. In compiler and program analysis, prepropagation may mean applying certain constraints or type information through parts of a program ahead of detailed evaluation to prune search spaces or optimize code generation.

In practice, prepagation relies on predictions or heuristics about future access patterns or workload characteristics. When predictions are accurate, performance gains can be substantial; when they are not, resources such as memory or bandwidth may be wasted, and stale or unnecessary data may be propagated.
