premotorområden
Premotor areas are regions of the cerebral cortex anterior to the primary motor cortex. They play a crucial role in motor control, particularly in planning and sequencing movements. These areas receive input from various cortical regions, including sensory areas and the prefrontal cortex, and project to the primary motor cortex, as well as to the spinal cord. The premotor cortex is often divided into the dorsal and ventral premotor cortex, each with slightly different functions. The dorsal premotor cortex is thought to be involved in the online control of movements, especially those guided by external stimuli, while the ventral premotor cortex is more associated with the selection of movements and goal-directed actions. Damage to premotor areas can lead to a variety of motor deficits, including apraxia, which is a difficulty in performing learned, skilled movements despite intact muscle function and comprehension. These areas are essential for translating intentions into coordinated motor actions.
