A precalciner, short for pre-calcination unit, is a device used in dry-process cement kilns to dry and partially calcine the raw meal before it enters the main kiln. It is typically integrated with the preheater and sits between the preheater exit and the kiln inlet. The precalciner uses hot gases, usually kiln exhaust or tertiary air, to heat the raw meal as it passes through a reactor, often a cyclone tower or a dedicated calciner chamber.
