Prebiootilised, meaning prebiotics in Finnish, are specific types of dietary fiber that nourish beneficial bacteria in the gut. Unlike probiotics, which are live microorganisms, prebiotics are non-digestible compounds that pass through the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract and stimulate the growth and activity of favorable bacteria residing in the colon. These beneficial bacteria, often referred to as the gut microbiota, play a crucial role in various bodily functions.

Incorporating prebiotic-rich foods into the diet is generally considered safe for most individuals. However, some people may experience temporary digestive discomfort, such as gas or bloating, when first introducing larger amounts of fiber. It is often recommended to increase intake gradually to allow the digestive system to adapt.
