Transitional justice and reconciliation processes may accompany these efforts to address past abuses and build trust among communities.

Postkonflikt efforts often unfold in phases: immediate stabilization and protection of civilians; reconstruction of institutions and economies; and longer-term consolidation that aims for sustainable governance, development, and resilience. Effective postkonflikt work emphasizes local ownership, inclusive participation, and coordinated action among governments, international organizations, and civil society.

Indicators used to monitor progress cover security improvements, governance and rule of law, service delivery, human development, and return or reintegration of displaced populations.
