Postav is a term that appears in several Slavic languages and can function primarily as a verb form, with occasional use as a component in proper names. In linguistic usage, it is most often encountered as an imperative form of a verb meaning to place, set up, or erect.

In Czech and Slovak, postav is the second-person singular imperative of the verb postavit (to erect or to place). It is used to issue a direct command, for example in phrases that translate to “Build a house.” In Polish, a closely related form is postaw, the second-person singular imperative of postawić (to put or to place). Similar imperatives exist in other South Slavic languages, such as postavi or postavite, reflecting shared Proto-Slavic roots connected to placement or construction.

The root shared by these forms is generally associated with placing, standing up, or setting something in a particular position. Because of regional variation in spelling and diacritics, exact forms and nuances differ between languages and dialects.

Beyond its grammatical use, postav may appear as part of proper names or surnames in some language communities, though it is not widely established as a standalone concept in English-language references. As a result, the term is best understood within its linguistic context as a command form related to placing or constructing.
