Ponzihuijaus, also known as a Ponzi scheme, is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to prior investors by recruiting new investors. It is an illegal form of pyramid scheme. The scheme typically promises high rates of return with little or no risk. The operators of a Ponzi scheme often use the money from new investors to pay off earlier investors, creating the illusion of a legitimate and profitable enterprise.

The name "Ponzi scheme" comes from Charles Ponzi, an Italian swindler who became famous for his use of this fraud in the United States in the early 20th century. Ponzi promised investors 50% profit in 45 days and 90% profit in 90 days. He achieved this by mailing out postal coupons that could be bought cheaply in foreign countries and redeemed for a much higher price in the United States. However, he didn't have enough coupons to pay all the investors, and soon the scheme collapsed.

Ponzi schemes require a constant flow of new money to survive. When the rate of new investment slows down, or when existing investors try to cash out their investments, the scheme inevitably collapses. At this point, the operator usually disappears, leaving most investors with significant losses. These schemes are often characterized by overly consistent returns regardless of market conditions, unregistered investments, and a lack of transparency. Governments and financial regulators worldwide warn against these types of investment schemes.
