pollenconcentraties
Pollenconcentraties describe the amount of pollen grains suspended in a given volume of air. They are typically reported as grains per cubic meter (grains/m3) and, when measured over time, as daily or hourly values. In aerobiology, concentrations are obtained with volumetric air samplers, such as Hirst-type and Burkard traps, which collect airborne particles on a sticky surface or filter. Collected samples are counted and identified under a microscope, often to genus or species where possible. Pollenconcentratie data are used for pollen calendars, forecasts, and public health advisories.
Concentraties are highly variable and depend on species, geography, and weather. Tree pollens peak in spring,
High pollenconcentraties can trigger allergic rhinitis and asthma in sensitized individuals, and thresholds for symptoms vary
Limitations include sampling coverage, taxonomic resolution, and temporal resolution, as well as differences between outdoor concentrations
