In timber construction, podzikowanie involves measuring the cross‑section of each board, marking a slight offset or notch, and fitting it into a corresponding slot or mortise. This allows builders to correct minor irregularities, compensate for wood swelling, or create intentional visual seams for decorative purposes. The method is also employed in the metalworking industry, where shafts or rods are slid into bearings or housings with a small chamfer that ensures a snug, level fit.
