A plungrörspump, also known as a plunger pump, is a type of positive displacement pump. It operates by utilizing a plunger that moves back and forth within a cylinder. This reciprocating motion creates a vacuum on the suction stroke, drawing fluid into the cylinder, and then displaces the fluid on the discharge stroke, forcing it out through a valve.

The design typically involves a crankshaft connected to a connecting rod, which in turn drives the plunger. As the crankshaft rotates, the connecting rod converts the rotary motion into the linear, back-and-forth motion of the plunger. Two check valves are essential for its operation: a suction valve that opens to allow fluid intake and a discharge valve that opens to expel the fluid.

Plunger pumps are known for their ability to handle high pressures and viscous fluids. They are often used in applications where precise flow rates or the delivery of a significant volume of liquid against considerable resistance is required. Common uses include oil and gas extraction, water jetting, chemical injection, and hydraulic systems. Due to their robust construction, they are also employed in demanding industrial environments.
