Its diet likely consisted of insects and small invertebrates, as indicated by its beak morphology and dental structure. The plumage of Plumagesta likely resembled that of modern passerine birds, with a combination of smooth and scaly feathers covering its body.

The Plumagesta genus includes several species, which have been identified based on fossil remains found in Europe, Asia, and North America. Some notable species include P. minuta and P. magna, which differed in their size and beak shape. The fossil record of Plumagesta is relatively extensive, with multiple specimens found in association with other Paleocene and Eocene fossil localities.
