Plosivediffusion is a proposed class of diffusion-like processes initiated by an impulsive energy release. The term combines the idea of a plosive, a sudden, localized release of energy, with diffusion, the gradual spread of a quantity through a medium. In this framing, a plosive event acts as a brief source that perturbs the medium, after which the quantity of interest (such as heat, a chemical species, or acoustic energy) spreads primarily through diffusion.

Mathematically, plosivediffusion is modeled by the diffusion equation with a transient source term S(x,t) representing the plosive release. If the impulse is localized in space and short in time, the resulting field u(x,t) is described by the convolution of the source with the diffusion Green’s function, subject to boundary conditions and the medium’s diffusivity D. The exact evolution depends on the geometry, boundary conditions, and the properties of the medium.

Applications span environmental dispersion modeling after impulsive releases, heat and contaminant diffusion in materials, and computational acoustics where energy released by a brief plosive event is treated as diffusing through the surrounding environment. The concept is interdisciplinary and used as a heuristic to compare diffusion-like spreading across different domains that originate from a brief energy input.
