Pilusrelated is a term used in microbiology to refer to components and processes associated with bacterial pili, hair-like surface appendages that mediate interactions with surfaces and other cells. Pili can facilitate adhesion to host tissues, contribute to biofilm formation, enable genetic exchange through conjugation, and in some contexts support motility. The pilus-related domain encompasses major pilin proteins, assembly machinery, and regulatory factors that build and control these structures.

In Gram-negative bacteria, pili encompass fimbriae and type IV pili; conjugative (sex) pili such as the F-pilus mediate DNA transfer between cells.
