Piirisidos, also known as the Finnish word for "circuit binding" or "printed circuit board assembly," refers to the process of populating a printed circuit board (PCB) with electronic components. This is a crucial stage in the manufacturing of electronic devices, transforming a bare PCB into a functional circuit. The process involves placing components such as resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and connectors onto the PCB according to a design schematic.

There are two primary methods for piirisidos: through-hole technology (THT) and surface-mount technology (SMT). In THT, component leads are inserted through pre-drilled holes on the PCB and then soldered. SMT, on the other hand, involves components with small terminals that are directly attached to the surface pads of the PCB and secured with solder paste. SMT is generally more common in modern electronics due to its efficiency, smaller component sizes, and suitability for automated manufacturing.

Automated assembly machines, such as pick-and-place machines, are widely used for SMT piirisidos to accurately place thousands of components per hour. Following component placement, the board undergoes soldering, typically reflow soldering for SMT or wave soldering for THT, to create electrical connections. Quality control checks, including visual inspection and automated optical inspection (AOI), are then performed to ensure proper placement and soldering of all components. The completed piirisidos is the foundation for the final electronic product.
